Nourishing Prosperity Alliance:

Nourishing Prosperity Alliance: the scale-up of an innovative private sector-led animal nutrition market system by co-investing in early forage market development

To improve smallholder and emerging farmer access to quality forages through market development.

Overview

Nourishing Prosperity Alliance (NPA) is an innovative coalition of private agricultural firms, research institutions and non-governmental organizations that aims to increase the productivity and incomes of small-scale dairy farmers in Ethiopia and Kenya. This will be achieved through access to improved animal feed sources, focusing on climate-resilient forages as a pathway to food and nutrition security and the advancement of women’s economic empowerment. NPA convenes stakeholders across the animal feeds and nutrition market system to address market bottlenecks by co-investing in early forage market development. The founding partners of NPA include Land O’Lakes Venture37 (Venture37), Forage Genetics International (FGI), Corteva Agriscience, and the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), who which have implemented a successful proof-of-concept pilot of the NPA model in Kenya.

Expected outcomes

NPA’s expected outcome is to establish commercially viable and sustainable forage markets that equitably strengthen the regional competitiveness of the dairy industries in Kenya and Ethiopia.
