Dr. Carlos Sere
CARLOS SERÉ (Uruguay) joined
the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) as Director General in
January 2002. Before this, he was director of the regional office for Latin America and the Caribbean of Canada's International
Development Research Centre from 1980 to 1990 he was the principal
economist of CIAT's Tropical Pastures Program. He has over 20 years of
experience in agricultural research, with an emphasis on livestock. He has
consulted widely for national and international research and development
agencies. His major interests are in livestock systems and research management.
He is particularly interested in issues related to the effective use of
research as a development tool. He has led innovative approaches for collaborative
inter-institutional endeavours such as shared research platforms and integrated
natural resources management programs. He holds a PhD in agricultural economics
from the University of Hohenheim, in Stuttgart,
Germany.
