Publication, however, would not have been possible without the important contributions, in the form of replies to the questionnaires, of many government officials in different sub-Saharan African countries.
Most of the data on which the calculations reported in this handbook are based / are drawn from FAO publications and data tapes. In addition, the Statistics Division of FAO has answered a number of individual queries and this help is gratefully acknowledged.
