Livestock production: meat

Table 4 Total 1987 output and yield of beef and veal* and relative changes in output: 1961-1974, 1975-1987

Source: FAO Agricultural Production Yearbook Standard Tape, 1989. Due to continuous updating of the data by FAO there may be slight discrepancies between the data in this source and data published later by FAO.

* Tape commodity code = 862. Tape unit of measurement = MT.
* Total output of beef and veal (production)/number of head of cattle slaughtered.
*** Total output of beef and veal (production)/number of head of all cattle in the herd (stock).

Output: Meat in terms of carcass weight from all animals slaughtered in the country. The figure therefore includes meat from all live animals imported for slaughter, and excludes meat from live animals exported for slaughter abroad.

@ @ Annual growth rates are computed by least squares regression from log transformation of the data for each year of the period. kg/an = kg per animal.

NEGL = Negligible, ie growth rate <0.05.

For the definition of income groups and list of countries in each group, see Table 1 and Annex 1.

* Tape commodity code = 977. Tape unit of measurement = MT.
** Total output of mutton and lamb (production)/number of head of sheep slaughtered.
*** Total output of mutton and lamb (production)/number of head of all sheep in the flock (stock).

Output: Meat in terms of carcass weight from all animals slaughtered in the country. The figure therefore includes meat from live animals imported for slaughter, and excludes meat from live animals exported for slaughter abroad.

Besides meat from bovine animals, sheep, goats, pigs and poultry, total meat includes minor meals, such as meat from equine animals (horses, asses, mules), camels, rabbits and game animals. The data on minor meats are particularly weak.

Output: Meat in terms of carcass weight from all animals slaughtered in the country. The figure therefore includes meat from all live animals imported for slaughter, and excludes meat from live animals exported for slaughter abroad.

@ @ Annual growth rates are computed by least squares regression from 109 transformation of the data for each year of the period.
