Partnerships and communications
All ILRI work is conducted in extensive and strategic partnerships that facilitate and add value to the contribution of many other players in livestock research for development work. ILRI employs an innovation systems approach to enhance the effectiveness of its research. Fundamental change in culture and process must complement changes in technologies to support innovations at all levels, from individual livestock keepers to national and international decision-makers.
The Partnerships & Communications (P&C) group at ILRI was established in 2003. This division deals with ILRI’s external relations with a range of partners including national agriculture research institutions (NARS), international organization, the general public, donors, government and non-governmental organizations, governments that host ILRI facilities etc. Partnerships is the way that ILRI conducts research depending upon the area of interest. ILRI works with a range of partners. These partner institutions include investors, NARS, NGO, farmer organizations, the private sector and other IARC’s.
Whereas most partnership arrangements are driven by the need of the research agenda and therefore initiated by scientists, the P&C division provides co-ordination and facilitation to ensure the collaborative partnerships are viable and strong.
Partnerships and Communications activities at ILRI are grouped into seven areas:
- Capacity Strengthening
- Information and Communication Technologies
- Intellectual Property Management
- Knowledge Management and Information Services
- Partnerships
- Public Awareness
- Resource Mobilization
The Group also hosts CGIAR Collective Action East and Southern Africa
