Regional strategic analysis and knowledge support system

The Regional Strategic Analysis and Knowledge Support System (ReSAKSS) is an information and knowledge management initiative to promote and support effective and sustainable agricultural and rural development strategies across Africa.

Three ReSAKSS nodes have been established in eastern, southern and western Africa to provide analytical and knowledge support to regional economic communities across the continent in the implementation of the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Program (CAADP).

The Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) is supported by the ReSAKSS node for Eastern and Central Africa (ECA), based at the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) in Nairobi, Kenya.

Goals
The main goal of ReSAKSS-ECA is to empower policymakers, researchers, civil society, private sector, development partners and beneficiary communities with information and knowledge to support the design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation, and impact assessment of agricultural and rural development strategies.

ReSAKSS-ECA intends to achieve this overall goal by developing within COMESA a wide range of collaborative networks of users and suppliers of knowledge and research products.

ReSAKSS is designed to work with and strengthen the research and analytical capacity of existing institutions, both at national and regional levels. ReSAKSS-ECA is working with partners towards the following goals:

  • Identifying growth and investment options aimed at achieving national and CAADP development targets and Millennium Development Goals.
    • Supporting COMESA in the implementation of CAADP by providing analytical support and monitoring of key development indicators in the region
    • Supporting COMESA countries in CAADP roundtable discussion and in the formation of SAKSS nodes at country level to support the implementation of national agricultural and rural development programs.

Priorities
Based on consultations with national and regional partners in COMESA, the focus areas for the ReSAKSS-ECA node have been agreed for the next three years. The priorities are organized around the three components of ReSAKSS:

  • Growth and investments regional integration
  • Monitoring and evaluation
  • Knowledge sharing and capacity building.
