Launch of Joint Laboratory on Livestock and Forage Genetic Resources by the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAA) and the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI)

A Joint Laboratory on Livestock and Forage Genetic Resources (JLLFGR) of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS) and the Africa-based International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) opened on 18 May 2004 at the Institute of Animal Science of the Chinese academy (IAS-CAAS). A Letter of Agreement establishing this joint facility was signed by the president of the Chinese academy and the director general of ILRI on 17 May. Attending the opening ceremony were representatives and delegations from China's Ministry of Agriculture, CAAS, IAS-CAAS, ILRI, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and the Rural Development Administration (RDA) of Korea. Drs Zhang Lijian, deputy director general in charge of international cooperation at CAAS, and Carlos Seré, director general of ILRI, unveiled the signboard of the new Joint Laboratory.
