Livestock Economics and Policy Analyses
  • Pro-Poor Livestock Policy Initiative

    Pro-Poor Livestock Policy Initiative is supported by the Pro-Poor Livestock Policy Facility
    (PPLPF) based at FAO headquarters in Rome and will contribute to poverty reduction through
    the formulation of international and national livestock policies that will ensure equitable, safe
    and clean livestock farming.

The goal of the GL-CRSP is to increase food security and improve the quality of life of people
in developing countries while bringing an international focus to the research, teaching and
extension efforts of U.S. institutions. This goal is to be met through collaboration between U.S.
land-grant institutions and national and regional institutions abroad that are active in livestock
research and development.

The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), a specialized agency of the United
Nations,was established as an international financial institution in 1977 as one of the major
outcomes of the 1974 World Food Conference.

The Association for Strengthening Agricultural Research in Eastern and Central Africa
(ASARECA) is a non-political organization of the National Agricultural Research Institutes
(NARIs) of ten countries: Burundi, D. R. Congo, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Madagascar, Rwanda,
Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda. It aims at increasing the efficiency of agricultural research in the
region so as to  facilitate economic growth, food security and export competitiveness through
productive and sustainable agriculture.

The Southern African Development Community (SADC), which was established in 1980 as
SADCC
, is promoting regional cooperation in economic development. It has adopted a
Programme of Action  covering cooperation in various sectors, including food security and
natural resources management.In order to enhance food security for all in the region, SADC
established a Food Security Programme.
