DAGRIS

Information on the extent of existing diversity, characteristics and use of indigenous farm animal genetic resources in developing countries is the basis for their present as well as future sustainable utilization. In view of lack of a systematic database on this information, ILRI has been developing the Domestic Animal Genetic Resources Information System (DAGRIS) as a web-based electronic source of information on selected indigenous farm animal genetic resources, initially in Africa and later in other developing countries of Asia and Latin America as well.

GenStat for Africa

Researchers know that effective statistical analysis is an essential part of their research, and needs high quality software. Now for the first time a leading statistical software product is available free to researchers throughout Africa. This could greatly increase the value of research in many fields.

Over the last ten years, research at the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) has generated an extensive range of spatial data layers. A number of these layers are related to livestock distribution and livestock health and production. Others cover more general topics such as population density, climate and infrastructure.

The CGIAR System-wide Livestock Programme (SLP)

was established in 1995, focuses on animal feed resources, natural resources management and policy issues. The SLP now involves 10 CGIAR centres, 5 ecoregional consortia and a large number of national agricultural research institutes in Africa, Asia and Latin America. The SLP is thus a global research community with research and development (R&D) activities in Asia, West Asia and North Africa (WANA), Africa, and Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC).
