Dieter Schillinger, a German citizen, has been working as an independent animal health consultant based in Munich, Germany, since early 2012. Before that, Schillinger worked for more than 25 years in the animal health industry. His last position in the industry was with Merial, where he was head of public affairs for Europe, Middle East and Africa from 2006 to 2011. Merial is a world leader in animal health with a proven track record in producing pharmaceuticals and vaccines for livestock, pets and wildlife. In 1972, Schillinger took a degree in mechanical engineering at Germany’s Regensburg University. By 1978 he had earned a doctorate in veterinary medicine from the University of Munich. He rounded out his formal education with an MBA in 1994 from Brunel University/Henley Management College, UK. He has managerial and leadership experience, particularly in business management and policy setting for veterinary public health, and has had extensive interactions in this area with top business and research leaders, government officials and food chain stakeholders worldwide. Schillinger has been a member of ILRI’s Board of Trustees since November 2009.
