Humidtropics value chain stakeholders' workshop in the development triangle

ILRI researchers Aziz A. Karimov and Nguyen Thi Thinh, in collaboration with Tay Nguyen University (TNU) and Western Highlands Agriculture and Forestry Science Institute (WASI) organized a value chain stakeholders' workshop on 4-5 November 2014 at Dacruco Hotel, Buon Mu Thuot, Dak Lak province. This research activity is part of the Humidtropics CGIAR Research Program, which is a global initiative that helps poor farm families, particularly those led by women, in tropical Africa, Asia and Americas to boost their income from integrated agricultural systems intensification while preserving their land for future generations. Around 40 participants attended the workshop, including TNU and WASI researchers, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development representatives of Dak Lak, Dak Nong and Kon Tum provinces, representatives from extension centres, farmers' clubs, private companies and farmers involved in producing and trading cassava, pepper, avocado and beef commodities. The workshop participants used the  LINK methodology developed by the Center for International Tropical Agriculture (CIAT). The first part of the workshop mapped the value chains of abovementioned commodities, which were selected based on situational analysis report on Central Highlands and on stakeholder discussions. On the second day, participants identified business models for linking smallholder farmers to dynamic markets.
