Over the last 10 years my research interests have focused mainly of the following key areas: • East Coast fever: This research has focused on better understanding of the epidemiology of the disease especially in pastoral productions systems, the impact of the diseases under different production systems and vaccination against the diseases using the live Infection and treatment method. • Contagious bovine pleuropneumonia: This study funded by the Welcome Trust sought to understand the epidemiology CBPP, its socioeconomic impact and evaluation of a modified T144 live vaccine. Options for the delivery of the vaccine were also explored. • Infectious diseases of cattle: This is an epidemiological study of the infectious diseases of cattle in western kenya funded by the Welcome Trust. The aim of the study is to try and understand the impact of infectious diseases and their interactions in calves up to the age of one year. Henry Kiara joined ILRI in June 1998.
