Assessing competitiveness of smallholder pig farming in the changing landscape of northwest Vietnam

The specific objectives are:

  • To assess the current level of competitiveness and profitability of pig farming and other major agricultural activities, especially maize, in northwest Vietnam.
  • To conduct a market study and assess likely changes in the next 10 years, based on past trends and stakeholder perceptions of future scenarios and implications on growth potential, viability, and sustainability of smallholder pig systems in the northwest region.
  • To identify market-based incentives and explore institutional/organizational arrangements to boost smallholder pig producer competitiveness.
