Alex is a Medical Anthropologist and researcher with a focus on social and health research particularly in sociocultural and economic determinants of health, disease aetiology, and health-seeking behaviour. With over seven years of experience in research, Alex has supported various qualitative and quantitative research projects in tool development, data collection and field management, data analysis, and dissemination. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Anthropology and a Master’s degree in Medical Anthropology, both from the University of Nairobi. He has professional training and experience in Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E), Strategic Planning and Management of projects, and Gender Studies. He continues to provide planning, coordination and liaison, implementation, and evaluation support to research projects and health programs using social science and qualitative methods. Alex is an outgoing ready-to-learn individual and open to new academic and research experience.

Alex joins the Project as a PhD fellow, focusing on the socio-economic and gender arm. He will be conducting an ethnographic study, exploring the socio-cultural and economic factors that influence exposure and vulnerability to zoonotic diseases. He aims to come up with thick descriptions of community practices that promote exposure and establish locally acceptable alternatives to address Rift Valley Fever, Brucellosis, and Q Fever.
