Scientist, Climate-Smart Agriculture and Policy

John Walker Recha joined ILRI in September 2011 as a Participatory Action Research Specialist for the CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS). He then became a Scientist, Climate-Smart Agriculture and Policy in November 2018. John's research seeks to identify high priority actions that we must collectively take now, for climate change adaptation and mitigation in food systems. Taken together, these actions are the basis of the systemic transformation that is needed in food systems to feed the Sub-Saharan Africa’s current and future population sustainably under climate change. John did his PhD in Soil and Crop Sciences with minor specialization in Soil and Water Engineering, and International Agriculture and Rural Development at Cornell University (USA). He has an MSc in Soil Science and Land Management (Sokoine University of Agriculture, Tanzania), and BSc in Agriculture (University of Nairobi, Kenya).
