Phil Toye

Operating Project Leader, Improving Disease Control and Product Safety

Phil Toye is principal scientist in animal health at International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI). He has major interests in the improvement of animal health through the development and deployment of vaccines and diagnostic assays. Hel graduated with a degree in Veterinary Science from the University of Queensland, Australia. He completed a PhD in immunoparasitology from the University of Adelaide, followed by a joint appointment as a Postdoctoral Fellow to the Harvard Medical School and Harvard School of Public Health. This was followed by several years as a scientist at the International Laboratory for Research on Animal Diseases (the forerunner of ILRI). Until December 2006, he was Research Manager at Agen Biomedical Limited, a biotechnological company in Brisbane, Australia, which specializes in in vitro diagnostic assays, for both human and veterinary health, before returning to ILRI in 2006. He has worked primarily on East Coast fever, with other activities on peste des petits ruminants and porcine cysticercosis.
