Since 1998, Nimbkar has been director of the animal husbandry division of Nimbkar Agricultural Research Institute in India. She previously worked for seven years as a research scientist. She has served as board member in NGOs and private companies, including the Maharashtra Goat and Sheep Research and Development Institute, and as a member of the research advisory committee of the National Bureau of Animal Genetic Resources and the Taskforce on Animal Biotechnology. She has received a number of awards and fellowships including Government of India Award for ‘Science and Technology Innovations for Rural Development–2007. She has a PhD from the University of New England. She joined the Board in November 2015.
