Alemayehu Teressa is a plant biotechnologist with many years of experience on crop genetic study, genebank operations, supervision of genebank facilities and laboratories, germplasm health testing and management, molecular population genetics, plant tissue culture, genetic transformation, genome-wide association study and genetic data curation and analysis. Currently Alemayehu is working on forage crops genetic diversity study, subsetting, assessment of duplicates and genetic integrity in genebank collection using genome-wide markers and field evaluation of different forages. Alemayehu has PhD in Plant Biotechnology (Natural Science) and MSc in Plant Biotechnology (International Horticulture) from Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Universität Hannover, and BSc in Horticulture from Jimma university.

Alemayehu is interested in conservation of plant genetic resources, the application of modern molecular toolboxes to study genetic resources and enhance the conservation and sustainable use of genetic resources for the selection of high yielding climate smart lines, genebank and its roles in climate adaptations, genetic data management and analysis, and capacity building of next generation professionals on plant genetic resources conservation and use.
