Principal Scientist - Team Leader Herd Health

Having started my career as a clinical vet in the UK and South Africa, I specialised in veterinary epidemiology and public health working in Europe, Africa and Central Asia. At ILRI I lead the Herd Health team and its research on livestock diseases and their control, as well as projects on food safety in African food markets. Focus areas include epidemiology, economics and policy for animal diseases, food safety and zoonoses.
I have extensive experience in veterinary vaccination programmes and the work of veterinary services, having been a former Chief Veterinary Officer, and through work with FAO and others. I have worked on a various sytems and animal health issues around the world, particulalry Transboundary Animal Diseases such as foot-and-mouth disease and avian influenza. I am the Africa editor for the journal Transboundary and Emerging Diseases.
