Commencing its journey with an official launch in Abuja, Nigeria, the Nigeria Livestock Master Plan (N-LMP) convened the public and private sector, development partners and the media, setting the stage for a comprehensive roadmap of key stakeholders in the livestock sector. Now, we're gearing up for the baseline data workshop scheduled for 11-14 December 2023 in Abuja, a pivotal activity in crafting the N-LMP.
This workshop is a platform to gather and validate data on priority livestock value chains in Nigeria—cattle, sheep, goats, chickens, and pigs—crucial to shaping a data-driven future for Nigeria's livestock sector.
Workshop Objectives:
- Clarify priorities: Validate production systems and define priority commodities and value chains for the N-LMP.
- Data elicitation: Compile comprehensive datasets covering livestock productivity, health, market trends and socio-economic facets.
- Identify gaps: Pinpoint areas with incomplete data, proposing solutions to fill gaps and guide further research.
- Map stakeholders: Emphasise the significance of engagement in the context of the N-LMP and identify key stakeholders and central decision-makers who must be informed about the LMP.
Anticipated Outcomes:
- Validated production systems: Confirmation of livestock production systems for the N-LMP, along with prioritised commodities and value chains.
- Robust datasets: Organised and consolidated datasets encompassing key livestock sector parameters like productivity, market trends, health stats, and socio-economic factors.
- Gap analysis report: Identifying and documenting areas with data insufficiencies, paving the way for targeted research and exploration.
- Initial framework of N-LMP engagement plan: Once finalised, this plan will serve as a well-structured roadmap outlining an engagement approach for each stakeholder and key messages that will guide interactions.
