Development of Improved Control Interventions for Peste des Petits Ruminants

The project aims at developing appropriate and proven PPR vaccination strategies that can form the basis of sustained PPR  control in developing countries.  To accomplish this, the project is developing a validated protocol for the production of a thermostable PPR vaccine for transfer to African vaccine manufacturers.  In a linked activity, the project is also identifying and testing components of new institutional models for delivering effective PPR control services to small ruminant producers in two locations.

Project Objectives



The overall research objective is to develop appropriate and proven PPR vaccination strategies that can form the basis of sustained PPR control in developing countries.

  • Component I: To  develop a fully validated thermostable PPR vaccine utilizing currently available technologies
  • Component II: To develop strategies for the sustainable delivery of PPR vaccine when and where it is needed



 

Expected Outputs

  • Component I - Output 1: Proven, thermostable PPR vaccine available for production and use
  • Component 1 - Output 2: Protocol for production and quality control of thermostable vaccine available for internal use
