ILRI-Hyderabad Livestock Research Facilities

ILRI-Hyderabad is home to a state-of-the-art research facility designed to support cutting-edge livestock science and innovation in South Asia. With a comprehensive suite of animal housing, laboratory infrastructure, and feed processing equipment, the center provides a strong foundation for multidisciplinary research on sustainable livestock nutrition and production, animal health and wellbeing.  

Nutrition Laboratory

Crop quality estimations are regularly performed at the analytical laboratory for nutritional traits such as dry matter, ash, crude protein, and fibers using international standard protocols. The invitro studies include rumen fermentation studies, feed digestibility analysis, methane emission estimation, and feed additive testing.

Near infrared spectrophotometers (NIRS) are regularly used for rapid estimation of crop quality traits. With a throughput of 200 samples per day and prediction of 30 traits per minute, handheld sensors are now being explored for on-farm assessment of crop quality. Over 80 quality prediction models (listed at the NIRS microsite) have been developed that can be used by diverse value chain actors, especially breeders and crop researchers. 

ILRI-Hyderabad is open to collaborations with researchers, industry partners, and development agencies. We offer a platform for pilot studies, capacity building, and scalable livestock innovations that deliver impact across South Asia.
