Accelerating Impacts of CGIAR Climate Research for Africa (AICCRA) in Ethiopia, Kenya and Senegal: Disclosure notice for labour management procedures

Accelerating Impacts of CGIAR Climate Research for Africa (AICCRA) is a project being implemented in Africa to help deliver a climate-smart African future driven by science and innovation in agriculture. AICCRA is supported by a grant from the International Development Association (IDA) of the World Bank, which is used to enhance research and capacity-building activities of CGIAR centres and initiatives, as well as their African partners.

The project development objective is to strengthen the technical, institutional, and human capacity needed to enhance the transfer of climate-relevant information, decision-making tools, and technologies in support of scaling efforts in IDA-eligible countries in Africa. The project is structured into three major components and comprises Component 1: Knowledge generation and sharing; Component 2: Strengthen partnership for delivery; and Component 3: Validating climate-smart agriculture innovations through piloting.

AICCRA Ethiopia, Kenya and Senegal is led by the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI). The project is focused on bridging the gap between research institutes and development organizations to promote the adoption of improved technologies including digital climate advisories, to enhance the resilience of the agriculture and food systems in the three countries.

The environmental and social screening conducted on AICCRA project activities in Ethiopia, Kenya and Senegal identified some of the potential risks to labour working conditions and occupational health and safety (OHS). ILRI has therefore prepared labour management procedures (LMP) to provide a methodical and coherent approach to dealing with the labour-related issues, risks and impacts likely to emanate from the implementation of this project. The LMP also sets out the managing of workers per the requirements of specific country labour laws and the objectives of the World Bank Environmental and Social Standard 2: Labor and Working Conditions (ESS2) and Standard 4: Community Health and Safety (ESS4) of the Environmental and Social Framework (ESF).

In line with the foregoing, a notice is hereby served to partners and project workers that the stakeholder engagement plans are published and electronically available in the following links
