Thermo Fisher Scientific and the International Livestock Research Institute join forces to transform sustainable livestock production in developing countries

Thermo Fisher Scientific, the world leader in serving science, and the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), a CGIAR research center dedicated to improving food security and reducing poverty through livestock research, announced this week a landmark collaboration at the 31st Plant and Animal Genome Conference (PAG). The signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between these two organizations marks the beginning of a new era of cooperation with the shared goal of advancing sustainable livestock production systems in developing countries.

This collaborative effort signifies a long-term commitment to work together on joint projects that aim to expand and secure the food supply in developing nations. By pooling their resources, expertise, and cutting-edge research and development capabilities, Thermo Fisher Scientific and ILRI will be able to address current and future challenges in the livestock industry.

Both organizations bring unique strengths and capabilities to the table, making this collaboration a powerful force for positive change in the agricultural sector.

Karen Nelson, chief scientific officer at Thermo Fisher Scientific, expressed her enthusiasm for this groundbreaking partnership, stating,

"We are thrilled to embark on this collaborative journey with ILRI, and we're confident that our combined research and development efforts will significantly contribute to food security in developing countries."

This collaboration between Thermo Fisher Scientific and ILRI highlights the power of partnerships in addressing critical global challenges. Together, they are paving the way for a brighter, more sustainable future, where access to nutritious food is enhanced, poverty is reduced, and the world becomes a healthier and safer place for all.

Appolinaire Djikeng, director general of ILRI, says that the MoU represents a “strategic research and development partnership between ILRI, the broader CGIAR system and Thermo Fisher. It is a very important step towards leveraging industry capabilities to drive sustainable livestock development in the global South with a particular focus on vulnerable livestock producers. I am personally excited that through this partnership, we’ll leverage the power of our combined capabilities to deliver innovations in building resilient food systems.”
