Alexandre Caron is a French veterinarian and a wildlife ecologist working for Cirad, joint appointee at ILRI since 2024. Before that, he researched on disease ecology during 20 years in southern Africa based in Zimbabwe until 2014 and then Mozambique.
His research interests have always been the ecology of pathogen transmission at the wildlife/livestock/human interfaces using the field of disease ecology, behavioral ecology, epidemiology and community ecology. In recent years, he has been more incline to use sustainability sciences, including participatory and anticipation sciences in order to promote a better coexistence between people and nature in shared landscapes. As such, he is contributing to the new field of social-ecological system health (SES Health) as an extension of ecosystem health in the framework of the One Health concept.
He is active in international arenas, including contributing to IPBES assessments, member of the Technical Advisory Group of the Nature4Health programme of UNEP and eastern Africa representative for the PREZODE initiative.
