Climate and Clean Air Conference: Launch of the framework for gender-responsive livestock development

Launch of the Framework for gender-responsive livestock development – Building a world free from hunger, malnutrition, poverty and inequality

Event Summary

Join the International Livestock Research Institute and partners the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the World Bank for the official launch  of their recently published global framework on gender and livestock.

The Framework for Gender-Responsive Livestock Development was developed to support the planning and implementation of gender-responsive policies, projects and investments related to the development of the livestock sector.

It is not intended to replace the gender strategies of individual organizations, but rather to provide an overarching framework to support the formulation of action plans and guidance documents contributing to gender equality and women’s empowerment through livestock development.

The document includes:

  • a list of important terminology;
  • a vision statement;
  • a set of guiding principles;
  • three technical sections covering gender responsiveness within three important aspects of livestock sector development – research, policy development and project delivery; and
  • A section addressing the enabling environment needed to support gender-responsive livestock development.
