
This seminar seeks to recount some important milestones in anthropological research on pastoralists and animal husbandry in East Africa and beyond. Rajindra Puri will reflect on classic studies as well introducing his own research on human livestock relations in India. There will also be discussion of new concepts emerging that might be useful in contemporary studies and work with small holder livestock farmers.

About the presenter

Trained as an environmental anthropologist and ethnobiologist, Dr Rajindra Puri works with local and indigenous communities to document and preserve their biocultural heritage. He is currently the Director of the Centre for Biocultural Diversity, and an Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Kent in Canterbury, UK.
He is also an Honorary Research Associate at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, and a Lecturer in Ethnobotany on the MSc Global Health: Food Security, Sustainability and Biodiversity, based at Royal Holloway University London and RBG Kew.
