2nd Ministerial Deep Dive on Livestock - Scaling What Works through Regional Value Chains, Partnership and Investment

Description

The 2nd Ministerial Deep Dive on Livestock builds on the inaugural 2025 session. The Platform takes a systems-wide view of Africa's livestock sector, examining one subsector each year through the full livestock ecosystem. The session will open with welcome and framing from AU-IBAR and ILRI, followed by a scene-setting presentation on Integrated Livestock Value Chains, Partnerships and Investment, highlighting the need to move towards delivery. This will be followed by two case studies, one on scaling, using Ethiopia's dairy growth as an illustrative country case, followed by a private sector perspective on delivery. Dairy is this year's illustrative example, not the subject. 

Ministers responsible for livestock will then hold an hour of facilitated dialogue, focusing on regional collaboration and co-operation, while applying lessons shared to their contexts to identify practical actions for strengthening integrated regional livestock value chains.

  • Overall objective: To leverage the Kampala CAADP Strategy and Action Plan (2026–2035) to accelerate the delivery of sustainable livestock transformation through integrated regional value chains, strategic partnerships, targeted public and private investment, and strengthened regional cooperation.
  • Specific Objectives:
    • Build a shared understanding of how integrated regional livestock value chains can translate the Kampala CAADP Strategy into practical action, investment and sustainable livestock transformation.
    • Identify practical strategies for scaling livestock transformation through integrated regional value chains, strategic partnerships, and targeted public and private investment.
    • Facilitate ministerial dialogue that enables peer learning and exchange, supporting practical actions to strengthen the policy, institutional and investment conditions for delivery.
