Nigeria Livestock Master Plan (N-LMP): supporting sector development with data-driven and participatory processes
Abstract
This overview presents the Nigeria Livestock Master Plan (N-LMP), a 15-year evidence-based strategy supported by five-year investment roadmaps to transform the livestock sector. Developed through rigorous sector assessments, stakeholder consultations, modelling, and financial analyses, the plan identifies priority interventions across cattle, small ruminant, poultry, and pig value chains. It emphasizes improved feeds, genetics, animal health, market infrastructure, public-private partnerships, and inclusive policies. The N-LMP aims to enhance productivity, sustainability, resilience, food security, incomes, and economic inclusion while guiding coordinated public and private investment.
