How evidence travels into policy: Informing policymaking on climate change and animal health in Kenya

This presentation, titled "How Evidence Travels into Policy: Informing Policymaking on Climate Change and Animal Health in Kenya," was presented at the E2A Conference in Ghana, organized by the International Consortium for Evidence to Action (ICED). It explores how evidence on animal health and climate change informs policymaking in Kenya, demonstrating that healthier livestock improve productivity, strengthen climate resilience, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions per unit of production. Drawing on literature reviews, key informant interviews, and participatory stakeholder workshops, the study maps evidence flows from researchers to policymakers, assesses Kenya's policy landscape, identifies priority livestock diseases across production systems, and highlights climate change as a key driver of animal health risks. The presentation concludes by identifying gaps in data, funding, institutional coordination, and implementation, and recommends strengthening evidence systems, enhancing county engagement, and improving collaboration between livestock and climate institutions to better integrate animal health into Kenya's climate policies.
