Market dynamics and opportunities for commercially viable forage-based feeds in Zambia and Zimbabwe
Abstract
Forage feed technologies remain underdeveloped in both Zimbabwe and Zambia, with farmers depending on rangeland biomass for ruminant livestock feeding. Increasing climate-induced stresses, such as drought and seasonal biomass availability results in poor livestock performance. Defining demand and supply markets for forage technologies is important in ensuring farmers benefit from livelihood diversification and improved feed access. Farmers in both countries can benefit from livelihood diversification by venturing into commercial forage feed production at rural level .
