Unlocking the Rio nexus – How sustainable transformation of food, land and water systems can turn the tide of land degradation, climate change and biodiversity loss while enhancing social gains

Abstract

This white paper seeks to enhance the coordination efforts and synergies between the three Rio Conventions (UNFCCC, CBD, UNCCD) using sustainable food systems as an entry point. It outlines experiences and lessons learned and identifies enabling factors from co-created innovations and research outputs by CGIAR and close partners on improved soil health, integrated land and water management, sustained ecosystems functions, and inclusive innovation and management processes for enhanced land and resource governance.
