Ilona Gluecks was appointed as head of clinical research facilities and CRO effective April 2020. She joined ILRI in 2016 as research facilities manager, in charge of both ILRI campus farm and Kapiti. In her new role she will lead ILRI’s new CRO initiative as well as the clinical research facilities.
She is a veterinarian by training from Giessen university with a PhD in epidemiology from the Freie University in Berlin, Germany. Her key expertise is in livestock husbandry and production, management of animal research facilities, contract research (GCP). The development of multi-donor, multi-sector prgrammes to support food and nutrition security in the Greater Horn of Africa, promoting the camel sector as well as the support in designing and implementing livestock research projects are part of her portfolio.
She lives in East Africa since 1999 where she gained experience in leading various programmes focusing on pastoralists and agro-pastoralists’ areas and the development of stategies to improve private veterianry service delivery and market development especially along the livestock value chains. From 2012 onwards she worked on commercial livestock farms and now facilitates and supports clinical research at ILRI.
