CGIAR One Health Initiative to address food system transformation in low- and middle-income countries

Abstract

This presentation describes the CGIAR One Health Initiative, which aims to protect human health in low- and middle-income countries by improving the detection, prevention, and control of zoonotic diseases, foodborne illnesses, and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) across food systems. Through research and interventions in Africa and Asia, the initiative generates evidence on health risks, evaluates food safety and disease-control innovations, and supports the integration of One Health approaches into national policies and programs. Case studies on zoonoses surveillance, food safety, AMR, water-related health risks, and policy engagement demonstrate how coordinated action across human, animal, and environmental health sectors can contribute to safer, more sustainable, and resilient food systems.
