Julie Ojango

Senior Scientist, Animal Genetic Resource Utilization and Management

Dr. Julie Ojango is a senior scientist at the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) with more than 15 years of experience leading collaborative projects that identify and propagate suitable breeds and breed combinations for livestock production systems in middle and low-income countries. She is well-versed in dairy cattle and small ruminant production systems, has excellent skills in livestock data management and quantitative analyses, and understands gender sensitivities in livestock production in smallholder and pastoral farming communities. She has strong knowledge-sharing skills and is committed to imparting information to transform the livestock sector through empowering innovative livestock scientists for the next generation. Before joining ILRI, Julie served as a senior lecturer of animal sciences at Egerton University in Kenya. Her educational background includes a Master of Science in Animal Production (Animal Genetics and breeding) from the University of Nairobi Kenya, and a Ph.D. in Animal Breeding and Genetics from The University of London, United Kingdom.
