High-Frequency Monitoring for Climate Resilience and Conflict Mitigation in Crop–Livestock Systems of Northern Nigeria: The KAZNET Approach

Abstract

The report highlights how CGIAR, through initiatives such as KAZNET, can strengthen food and livelihood security in fragile and conflict-affected settings (FCAS), where climate shocks, conflict, market disruptions and institutional constraints often interact. The KAZNET initiative illustrates the value of integrating community-generated, high frequency information with empirical research and indigenous knowledge to enhance understanding of changing livestock dynamics, market, and livelihood conditions. It further shows that effective FCAS interventions require strong local partnerships, flexible implementation and context-specific approaches that connect research with practical decision-making. CGIAR’s value lies in linking communities, evidence and institutions to strengthen resilience and facilitate more informed and timely responses to shocks.
