Small ruminants in the Nigerian sub-humid zone

Abstract

This paper discusses the single-round survey of smallholder goat and sheep production which is carried out in the Nigerian sub-humid-zone villages. In order to determine and analyse the importance of the designing and executing surveys as well as to give emphasis upon the flock breed structure existing, improving the animal breeding and production system. The paper highlights the important points as:- 1. Holding size and demography; 2. Fertility; 3. Mortality, and 4. Sales, slaughters and transfers.
