Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Small-Scale Irrigation – Irrigated Fodder Development, Phase II

The project aims to build on the Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Small-Scale Irrigation (ILSSI) Phase I work of validating and promoting sustainable small-scale irrigation technologies to produce irrigated fodder in the smallholder systems and help bridge seasonal feed shortages.

The technologies include labour-saving water lifting technologies and forage genotypes that fit well in the smallholder farms in terms of water and nutrient use efficiency. Through improved access to good-quality forages, the project aims to contribute to an increase in livestock productivity, and improvement in household nutrition and gender equity. The project works closely with national research centres and farmer dairy cooperatives as important partners to strengthen the irrigated fodder value chain in the Amhara and Southern regions of Ethiopia.
