Investment opportunities to scale proven innovations - Kaimosi ATC Living Lab supported innovation cases for circular bioeconomy in Nandi County
Abstract
The Kaimosi Agricultural Training Centre (ATC) Living Lab for People (LL4P) in Nandi County supports the identification, testing, and scaling of climate-smart agricultural enterprises capable of transforming local food systems. Through collabora¬tion among farmers, researchers, development partners, private-sector actors, and government institutions, LL4P has sup¬ported a portfolio of promising innovations, including pig production using climate-smart feed systems, mushroom cultivation, biochar production, vermicomposting, beekeeping, stingless bee honey production, Azolla cultivation, and black soldier fly farming.
Evidence generated through rapid impact assessment conducted by LL4P demonstrates that all supported innovations generated income within six months of operation while contributing to environmental sustainability, waste reduction, and livelihood improvement.
Despite these achievements, many enterprises remain constrained by limited access to capital, infrastructure, value addition facilities, and markets. This document presents investment opportunities for scaling proven innovation cases and strength¬ening LL4P. Strategic investments in enterprise expansion, value addition, market development, infrastructure, and innova¬tion incubation have the potential to generate financial returns while contributing to climate resilience, employment creation, food security, and sustainable agricultural transformation in Nandi County and beyond.
