The Indian Institute of Chemical Technology and ILRI to work together in livestock feed development

The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) and the Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT), a national research centre under the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), have started a research collaboration in livestock feed development.

The two organizations signed a memorandum of understanding on 22 January 2018 that will see them work together in exploring how biofuel technologies can be used to upgrade livestock feedstuff. They will also develop pilot feed treatment units for upgrading livestock feeds.

Under the agreement, which was signed by Habibar Rahman, ILRI’s regional representative for South Asia, and Srivari Chandrasekhar, director of CSIR-IICT, the organizations will also explore complementary research, institutional development and staff capacity development opportunities to enhance their respective missions.

ILRI’s mission is to improve food and nutritional security and to reduce poverty in developing countries through research for efficient, safe and sustainable use of livestock – ensuring better lives through livestock. CSIR-IICT, conducts research in basic and applied chemistry, biochemistry, bioinformatics, chemical engineering and provides science and technology inputs to the industrial and economic development of the country.
