From evidence to policy: Lessons from Kenya's One Health experience

Zoonotic diseases pose a growing burden on human and animal health and economies across Africa and Asia, driven by expanding livestock and wildlife farming, climate change and land use change. Over the past decade, One Health research led by ILRI and partners has produced three disease control policies in Kenya: a national anthrax control strategy, a human brucellosis testing strategy and a Rift Valley fever contingency plan. These frameworks have strengthened interdisciplinary partnerships for disease surveillance and control. This brief shares lessons from developing and implementing these policies that can inform similar frameworks for other zoonotic diseases.
