James Hawkins

Postdoctoral Fellow: Systems modelling, data automation

James completed his PhD in Environmental Science from Lancaster Environment Centre, Lancaster University, UK in 2021. His interests lie in the design and application of analytic tools for quantitative assessment of livestock environmental impacts and performance, especially in low-input, smallholder and pastoral/agropastoral systems of Sub-Saharan Africa.

Having completed a M.Sc. in Agricultural & Resource Economics from University of Guelph in 2014 and a work-term at IFPRI (Int. Food Policy Res. Institute) 2014-2016, his work emphasizes integration of bio-physical and economic models, providing insights ranging from plot to region-scale. Within the LCE program he is responsible for the development and integration of crop-livestock simulation models, with the purpose of proposing climate smart agricultural practices that best align with producers' livelihoods. Through the Mazingira Centre, he also contributes to the design and management of data collection and processing protocols.
