Improving livelihoods of Rural Population: Intensification, Access to markets, and Sustainable Management of Natural Resources in the Sahelian AEZ of KKM-PLS

This task force focuses its activities within the Sahelian agro-ecological zone of northern Nigeria and southern Niger. The task force has built an Innovation Platform (IP) aimed at addressing the multifaceted nature of the problem related to feed scarcity at the technological, policy, and markets levels to improve the livelihoods of smallholder mixed crop-livestock farmers in the Sahelian zone. The project will add value to earlier research works to promote sustainable agriculture using systems and participatory approaches ILRI is contributing to this project by working with national partners to evaluate feeding strategies for livestock that can improve income to integrated crop-livestock farmers. An innovation system approach helps to identify and link actors within the livestock sector for more favorable integration of technical interventions within the economic and social environment.
