One Health workshop in Bangkok

Advancing One Health in Southeast Asia: workshop highlights strategies for implementation and investment

The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) and the Southeast Asia One Health University Network (SEAOHUN) recently organized a workshop in Bangkok, Thailand on 19-20 December 2023 to address pressing global health challenges in Southeast Asia. The region is recognized as a hotpot for novel and re-emerging zoonotic diseases. Despite growing awareness, challenges persist in One Health implementation and investment. The workshop, co-funded by CGIAR One Health Initiative and the ASEAN-CGIAR Innovate for Food and Nutrition Security, brought together participants from seven countries, including ministries, universities, and international organizations. Key discussions centered on resource mobilization, regional collaboration, and engaging the private sector. The need for enhanced government and private sector involvement, experience sharing, and a comprehensive map of ongoing activities was emphasized. The outcomes will be shared to promote the operationalization of the One Health approach in Southeast Asia.
