This project sets out to develop the knowledge, skills, tools and products that are prerequisites for future scaling efforts that will significantly reduce gaps in feed quantity and quality, and thereby increase livestock productivity in Ethiopia and Burkina Faso. The project has four focal areas: (i) Creating an inventory of feed resources through a landscape analysis to document the quantities, nutritional qualities and prices, availability and accessibility of feeds that can be used to improve livestock productivity; (ii) Promotion of strategies to increase the yield, quality and preservation of fodder with location-specific improved forages for the countries’ different agro-ecologies; (iii) determination and meeting nutrient requirements of indigenous livestock with balanced rations; and (iv) improving the capacity to analyze the nutritional value of livestock feeds.
