Marketing, processing and value-adding of camel milk and meat products in the arid and semi-arid lands of Kenya

This project aims to identify and test efficient and viable market mechanisms, processes and appropriate technologies that provide more reliable returns to smallholder camel keepers and deliver safe camel milk and meat products to consumers at low cost. The project further seeks to identify and promote policies, development interventions and training that will support the identified market mechanisms, processes and appropriate technologies.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES 

  • Establish current knowledge on marketing of camel milk and meat products.
  • Identify market channels and consumer preference for camel milk and meat products.
  • Obtain market knowledge of viable alternative camel milk and meat market mechanisms and their constraints.
  • Identify and test practical interventions that deliver safe, consumer-preferred camel milk and meat products.
  • Document, disseminate and promote market knowledge of viable alternative camel milk and meat market mechanisms, their constraints and practical interventions.
