Livestock: A Climate Solution for the Global South

Despite livestock’s central role in food security and rural livelihoods, its importance in helping low- and middle-income countries adapt to climate change has received little attention in mainstream discourse. Climate funding for livestock systems is minimal, and for smallholders, almost nonexistent. Yet, without targeted investment, millions risk losing a critical pathway out of poverty.

COP30 in Brazil is our moment to change that.
Building on conversations from previous COPs and the work of the Livestock and Climate Solutions Hub, ILRI and CGIAR partners are driving a global dialogue to shift the narrative from problem to solution. The Hub acts as an integrator, connecting science, policy, and practice, to ensure evidence translates into investment and implementation.

Our mission is clear:

  • Bridge the funding gap for climate-smart livestock systems
  • Amplify farmers’ voices in global climate action
  • Deliver solutions that are context-specific, scalable, and actionable for decision-makers
